SACRAMENTO RACEWAY 2011

             AA/Gasser Heritage Race

              July 15th & 16TH

Leonard makes it two in a row

After winning the Infineon race, Mike Leonard and crew continued on by setting low ET, top speed and grabbing the # 1 qualifying spot for the AA/Gas Heritage race at Sacramento raceway

Leonard, who missed the first round of qualifying when a fuel line came loose, went to the # 1 spot in the second round with a very impressive 6.62 / 205 pass on a very tricky and slick race track that was not kind to some. Scott Loomis got the # 2 spot with a very stout 6.82. Chuck Moore was third with a 6.83 using the entire right lane. Mark Gordon driving his beautiful Mustang fastback landed in the fourth spot with a 7.01. Ralph Willis, Hubert Wilson, Rob Patton and Rich Roberts rounded out the field.

First pair of eliminations was Leonard and Rich Roberts. Roberts got the starting line advantage and was ahead until his rear end broke around 300’ out, then it was all Leonard who ran a 6.66 / 205 pass for the win.

Chuck Moore received a bye as Hubert Wilson could not make the call.

Next pair Matched Willis driving Daryl Jensen’s 59 Vette against Gordon in the Mustang. Willis got a big jump on the line with a fantastic .011 light, but lost the blower belt about 400’ out, giving the win to Gordon. Gordon, who was looking for a tune-up in his first outing with the small 6-71 blower, carded a 6.98 ET.

Last pair pitted Loomis against Patton. Both drivers were ready with great lights .055 & .022 but in the end it was Loomis taking the win.

The second round pitted Leonard against Gordon. Gordon with a slight starting line advantage, but it was all Leonard after that with a 6.70 pass.

Chuck Moore was to run Scott Loomis, but Loomis could not make the call after dropping a valve in the first round, moving Chuck into the final round.

The Final was a repeat of Infineon with Leonard taking on Chuck Moore. Chuck got the edge at the starting line but his Vette headed for the wall, he tried to bring it back, but gave up as he watched Mike run another 6.62 pass.

Congratulations to Mike and crew for a great job and a well deserved
